Herd of Turtles Table runner finish

This is the Herd of Turtles table runner I made for my swap partner with The Quilted Table Yahoo group. My swap partner lives in Florida right on the coast so I thought the sea turtles would be appropriate :0). The pattern is one from PacificRimQuiltCo.com designed by Nancy Chong. I stippled in the water using Sulky Holoshimmer metalic thread which really made it sparkle. The batiks looked great too. It really doesn't look so wrinkly in real life.

I also finished my two blocks for the Jelly Roll Quilt Along and my Sentimental Journey block for April. This means I get to start a new project! Now what will it be...I always have several ready to start:0). I am still thinking about the pillow for my pillow swap partner. So many different options.

Here is my latest finish. It is a baby quilt made on commission. It turned out cute, lots of bright color.

I am having fun with a new applique technique and stippling with metalic thread. My runner should be finished soon and I will post a picture of it once my swap partner has received it. I'm really hoping she likes it. I think it is turning out very nice.

My Doubledipity Serendipity Quilt

Just recently I took a class presented by Marci Baker called Doubledipity Serendipity. This is the quilt that I made after taking the class. Her quilts are much prettier! I learned alot and my second quilt will be much fancier. You can see some of her quilts at www.aliciasattic.com . This quilt is perfect size for a baby. I put a flannel backing on it with planet and stars because I think these look like astroids. I am donating it to my quilt guild to give to a needy family.

Little Red Hen x 4

I found a cute pattern for chicken pot holders at the LQS. You slip your hands into the chickens wings to protect you from the heat. I am going to make up a few pairs to take to the family reunion for the auction. Every third year we have a family reunion in Kansas. We have an auction from family donated items to make money for the next reunion. Handmade stuff sells really well. The pattern is by PM Lane's Patterns. They didn't have a website. The pattern sews up nicely but it isn't a beginner pattern! Lots of thick places to sew through. I love them. Hope everyone loves them at the reunion!

Patriotic Baby Quilt finish!

I made this quilt on commission. She wanted a patriotic baby quilt for a military friend's new baby. This quilt is about as patriotic as it can get! It took me about 5 days total, but that was a lot of fast and furious stitching. It turned out nice. It is 52x40 inches so will still be a nice size for a child. My kids always used their baby quilts for curling up on the sofa to watch TV long after they were babies.

They still haven't called me for an interview for the hospital position in the Recovery Room. I'm kinda glad about that! I did start working on a committee project for my quilt guild, Piecing Partners. We are putting together a quilt show for 2011 here in Colorado Springs. I think this job will be exciting.

Busy Day: sewing and applying for a job!

Yesterday I pieced my third block for my Sentimental Journey 2010 BOM. When I was ready to put on the sashing I noticed that the sashing pieces were too short. Oh well, I'll just stretch them a little. So I stretched them...not such a good idea! Now not only was my block distorted it was still too big. Should have been 16.5 inches square but ended up 16 and 3/4! Yuck, I hate imperfection. Soooo I take the whole block apart and measure and trim each piece and stitch it back together. Now I have a beautiful almost perfect finished block. Now I'm happy that when I look at my quilt I won't be totally disgusted with myself! Anyway, all the unsewing and resewing did give me ample time to contemplate my decision to apply for a job at the local hospital. While the extra money would be great it would also mean giving up precious sewing time:-(. Well, I haven't got the job, I have only applied for it. So I'll cross that bridge if I get to it. One never knows how their life will play out. The best part of my day was making a trip to the LQS to pick out backing for my Bunny Hill applique quilt. My first attempt at real applique. Not the cut and paste method! Can't wait to have it quilted.
