The blocks for Hayden's Bug Jar Quilt are all embroidered and framed. If you look closely you can see that each jar has vinyl to represent the glass. Click on the photo to enlarge it. I love the bright colors for the whimsical embroidered bugs. The first block shows the sashing. There will be another border and probably piping next to the binding. Hayden (my great nephew) is 3, so I think he will appreciate the bright colors and funny bugs. My favorite part of quilting is watching it all come together. See, all the mess below is worth it. I have most of the thread put away and I am working on the fabric stash!

Sewing is Messy!
This is how my sewing room looks when I am in the middle of a project. The fabric stash and the thread stash are out for my rummaging. That's my cutting table in the corner. I just push everything to the side so I have a bit of room to cut (or I go out to the kitchen table). The second picture shows both embroidery machines working hard.
I just thought it would give everyone a giggle to see my mess in all its glory! I am oh so glad I have a door to my sewing room especially when my mother comes to visit. LOL Hope you have a good giggle on me!
Good news...I start my new job on August 16 so I still have time to finish my nephews quilt. I will be working in the Radiology Nursing Unit per diem. I will be monitoring patients and giving sedation/pain meds while they have procedures done. Thanks for wishing me luck getting this job. It will stimulate my brain some I am sure. And, I'll have more money to buy more fabric!!!
p.s. I am much tidier and organized at work, I promise.

Friday Night Sew-In
Well, I got off to a slow start for the FNSI. Actually I didn't get started till Saturday. I've been sewing and sewing (embroidering really). Life got in the way this week. My daughter's dog was run over by a van on Tuesday. He was at the vet all day Tuesday, then surgery on Wednesday. I spent half the day at the hospital Tuesday shadowing the nurses in the Radiology Dept.. Now that paid off because I got the job I have been trying for. Yahoo! However, also on Tuesday it poured rain, right into our basement via the window well. It also poured rain in my daughter's house via the doggy door. So here is what I have managed to sew on my nephew's quilt.

My New "Easy on the Back Bag"
I just finished a new bag for myself. It is the "Easy on the Back Bag" by Jenny Raymond. It wasn't the easiest bag to make but I really like the finished product. I made it out of a batik. It really is more purple than blue and has green mixed in. Some of my favorite colors. Now to go add my stuff!

Chicken Pot Holders
I have had a lot of inquiries about the chicken pot holders I made, so I am posting a link for the pattern. Have fun everyone.

Watermelon and Family Reunion
The watermelon table runner is for The Quilted Table July challenge. I love the way it turned out. The pattern is at allpeoplequilt.com.
We made it back from Kansas where we went for our family reunion. The first day was HOT and WINDY. The second day was better. Overcast and just a breeze. We had a great time visiting with family and picnicking. Our family reunion is held every three years. We have an auction to help pay for the food and treats. I donated my red chicken potholders. They made around $30.00 for each pair. I thought that was a fair price. My husband who is known for his beef jerky and who usually brings in a lot of $$ at the auction selling it, greatly disappointed the crowd when he forgot it at home! He was then required to contribute $$ to make up for what he didn't make selling his jerky. Oh well!
Here are the home made knitted dishcloths I scored for $11.00. They are really nice! I got lucky too because the second batch of dish cloths went for $30.00.
Still no word on the job I applied for. Hope you are having a great summer.
